To promote excellence in the construction of buildings and just and honourable practices in the conduct of business;
To advance the study of building and construction sciences, management and economics;
To encourage the friendly exchange between members of knowledge in practical, technical and ethical subjects; and

To uphold the dignity of the profession of building/construction and the status of the Institute.


Accreditation Process

The academic requirement for full membership of the Institute is set at degree level, and candidates who possess an accredited degree are said to be fully meet the APIB's academic requirements.

However, the APIB also recognises relevant professional awards which exempt the candidate in full, or in part, from the requirements of the educational framework.

The APIB will recognize those awards from:


Graduates from the Bachelor degree programs are granted full exemption from the written examinations of the APIB.
The Institute reserves the right to request additional information.

The functions of practical experience which are recognized are as follows:

Building control Inspection Quantity surveying
Building asset management Maintenance management Research
Building surveying Planning Site engineering
Construction management Project management Site management
Cost and production control Purchasing Teaching
Design Quality control Training
Estimating Facility management Consultancy

Any other function acceptable to the Institute which requires the exercise of professional judgement relating to some aspects of building or construction.

Note: Experience in an operative, or a first line supervision position CANNOT be counted towards the requirement.

ADMISSION is based upon academic attainment and experience in building practice at the required level and duration as sought by the Institute from the employment fields described above.
